Welcome to the Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do Web site. Our DoJang (training hall) is run under the expert guidance and teaching of Mr Robert MacGregor, who holds a Black Belt Fourth Dan in the Korean Martial Art of Tae Kwon Do.
Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do opened in March 2008 and has students of all age groups and levels of experience. The manner of Mr MacGregor’s teaching, has made the DoJang a popular venue for those who wish to learn this powerful and graceful art.
There are a number of reasons for students taking up the sport, some for the confidence it gives them, others who wish to learn how to defend themselves effectively should the need arise. The increased fitness and flexibility that Tae Kwon Do can provide is another factor, as is the discipline and self-belief which become a way of life for many.
Mr MacGregor has a teaching style which skilfully combines a sense of fun in the the physical fitness training aspects, which are essential in “warming up and stretching” the various muscle groups, prior to the more serious concentration and focus which are needed to master the moves and patterns which are the basis of Tae Kwon Do.
The art in general emphasises kicks thrown from a mobile stance, employing the leg's greater reach and power (compared to the arm). Taekwondo training generally includes a system of blocks, kicks, punches, and open-handed strikes and may also include various take-downs or sweeps, throws, and joint locks.
