The date for the next grading is Sunday 3rd October at the Rosie McDuff Hall in East Wemyss again, although Mr. MacGregor may do a grading on a Thursday on the following week.
Recruitment:
Welcome to our latest recruits Kalum Salmon. Ronan McGuire has earned a free do bok or sparring equipment for introducing him. We hope you enjoy your training with us and will be here for a long time as part of our Tae kwon do family.
Mr. Ferguson recently did his black belt pre-grading, so we expect him to go for his first dan in the next few months.
Competitions:
Master Sutherland is holding a competition in Livingston on Sunday the 10th of October at West Lothian College; forms are available now from Mr. MacGregor.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club news:
We will try to hold the AGM very shortly. Mr. MacGregor will send out notification separately on this.
Andy Fowler is optimistic that we may get corporate sponsorship from FMC, so the club may well become operational soon. We do now have about £76 in our bank account. Any new students who have not yet become club members can do so by paying £1 to Mr. MacGregor, and we will be looking to existing members to renew in October or November.
LOCHGELLY TAE KWON DO NEWSLETTER
2010 newsletter No.5. August 2010.
Grading results/next scheduled grading:
Congratulations to the following 5 students who graded at the Town Hall on Thursday 5th August under Mr. MacGregor and Mr. Scott:
Promoted to 9th Kup (white with yellow tips) Ruadrhi MacDonald and Ronan McGuire
Promoted to 8th Kup (Yellow belt) Ellie Stewart
Promoted to 5th Kup (Green with blue tips) Aidan Early
Promoted to 4th kup (Blue belt) Nicole Wallace
Nicole is the first Lochgelly Tae kwon do student to reach blue belt, remember the blue colour signifies the sky towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae kwon do progresses, and she showed her own maturing technique and power during the grading.
Recruitment:
Welcome to our latest recruit Kim and lets hope that she is with us for a long time to come.
Remember that we will give away a free piece of sparring equipment or a do bok for everyone you introduce who obtains their licence). Declan Wallace has just been given a free pair of sparring gloves because Nicole introduced a friend.
Competitions:
Master Sutherland plans a competition in Livingston in September, forms will be available early next month.
Do try a competition, they are great fun and a good way to meet people.
Technical seminar & black belt grading:
These will be at The Excite Centre in Broxburn on the 25th and 26th of September. The technical seminar is open to green belts and above and should be well worth going to, especially as we now have 3 students who can go.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club news:
We will take part in the Lochgelly Gala on Sunday the 22nd of August. Those taking part will receive a bag of “stuff” and the club will get a donation, which can go to the club bank account. We will be working on some special routines for this in the next couple of weeks.
LOCHGELLY TAE KWON DO NEWSLETTER
2010 newsletter No.3. May 2010.
Grading results/next scheduled grading:
Mr. MacGregor enjoyed his own grading success in late April being promoted to 4th dan black belt. As most of you will now have noticed this means a new belt and black stripes down the arms and legs of his do bok.
The reason for the stripes is to identify international instructors and make them stand out from lower grade black belts, as this is an important promotion.
Recruitment:
Word of mouth is still the most effective way of recruiting so please tell your friends (remember that we will give away a free piece of sparring equipment or a do bok for everyone you introduce who obtains their licence). Nicole Wallace has just earned a new do bok for free for introducing a friend.
Welcome to our latest recruits, Ellie Stewart and Morgan Farrell, both of whom have taken the discounted start-up package (ÂŁ80 for do bok, licence and first month training).
Competitions:
The next competition is at the Bells Sports Centre in Perth on the 19th of June, hosted by Master Sutherland and called “The Gathering”. Entry forms for this will shortly be available from Mr. MacGregor and must be returned very quickly as he needs to submit them by the 31st of May. You are encouraged to take part, as they are a great way to meet new people and give you good experience for the national ones. They are also great fun. If you are not ready to compete why not come along to watch, if you stay to near the end you get to see the black belts compete!
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club news:
The club bank account has now been set up so we can go about applying for grants and paying monies raised into the club. Remember the annual fee was set at £1 for each student and committee member and Mr. MacGregor will be looking for this to be paid during soon for the few who haven’t yet done so.
2010 newsletter No.2. April 2010.
Grading results/next scheduled grading:
Congratulations to everyone who passed their grading exam on Sunday 11th April at the Rosie MacDuff Hall in East Wemyss. We have kept up our 100% record of passes!
Recruitment:
Word of mouth is still the most effective way of recruiting so please tell your friends (remember that we will give away a free piece of sparring equipment or a do bok for everyone you introduce who obtains their licence).
Welcome to our latest recruits, James Paterson, Ronan McGuire and Kirstie Early we hope to see even more soon.
Competitions:
The next Scottish Championships will probably be in June.
If there are any local competitions in the meantime you are encouraged to take part, as they are a great way to meet new people and give you good experience for the national ones. They are also great fun!
Other news:
Mr. MacGregor took part in the UKTF technical seminar at the end of March, so has some new stuff to teach, which will begin following the grading. He will be at the instructor forum on 24th April in Inverness.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club news:

LOCHGELLY TAE KWON DO NEWSLETTER
2010 newsletter No.1. Jan/Feb 2010.
Grading results/next scheduled grading:
Certificates were presented on Thursday the 7th of January 2010.
Photos of 10 out of the 11 successful students with their certificates appeared in the Courier newspaper in mid January.
Recruitment:
Word of mouth is still the most effective way of recruiting so please tell your friends (remember that we will give away a free piece of sparring equipment or a do bok for everyone you introduce who obtains their licence).
Welcome to our latest recruits, Barry Russell, Bryan Jeffrey and Martin, we hope to see even more in the coming month or two.
New equipment:
As some of you will already have seen Mr. MacGregor has bought a portable holder for breaker boards. This is capable of holding the coloured boards used for juniors and the white and black boards used by the seniors. It is hoped that it will be a useful tool especially for the seniors as it takes a lot of effort to manually hold boards for them to break.
Please note this should never be used without the instructor’s supervision!
Competitions:
The next Scottish Championships will probably be in June. Master Sutherland is hosting an unofficial competition on Sunday 21 March 2010 in Livingston – see Mr. MacGregor soon if you need application forms.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club executive committee meeting:
The last one took place on the first Tuesday in December and the next is not yet scheduled, but we hope to have it in February 2010. If anyone has any new ideas to report or new developments please tell one of the committee members some time before the meeting, and if you want to report direct to the meeting this can be arranged.
The club bank account has now been set up so we can go about applying for grants and paying monies raised into the club. Remember the annual fee was set at ÂŁ1 for each student and committee member and Mr. MacGregor will be looking for this to be paid soon.
Thirteenth newsletter – October/November 2009.
Recruitment:
Our poster and flier recruiting drive continues, thanks to all those who have made the effort to distribute posters and tell their friends.
New members:
None this month, but that is obviously because of the October holidays (we have had quite a few students missing because they have been on their holidays). Keep up the good work though and we can hope to have more in November and December.
Competitions:
There are no firm plans but Mr Adam is considering running something local for our schools. Mr MacGregor will keep everyone posted on any developments.
Remember that all competitors are expected to take their licence, do bok and, if competing in sparring will need their sparring equipment (see Mr. Macgregor).
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club - We plan to have our second Executive committee Meeting on 3rd November, so if the following can make themselves available after class (for about half an hour) that would help:
- President/Chairperson Robert MacGregor
- Vice president Mike Ferguson
- Secretary Andrew Fowler
- Treasurer Mark Wallace
- Children’s representative Jack Graham
- Ordinary committee member Craig Dickson
Andy Fowler (as most of you know) has been off sick for a while now and I am sure that all the members would join me in wishing him a quick and full recovery.
We hope to hear from Mr. Wallace that we have a bank account set-up, to agree a membership fee, and Mr. MacGregor hopes to have some grant funding details to discuss. We also wish to hear about any progress on publicising or fund raising proposals discussed at the AGM and any other ways of growing the club, for example the after school clubs that were mentioned at the AGM.
Even if you are not on the committee if you have an idea or something to report speak to your committee members and they can discuss it at the meeting or you can report to the meeting.
The minutes of the AGM are now available. These are in draft, so if you have any comment about their completeness or accuracy please speak to a committee member.

Thanks very much to all those students who took part in this event. I’m sure you will agree that it was a fun day and an excellent chance to get together. Thanks also to the parents / partners who helped out with the barbecue and to those who attended the inaugural meeting of the club.
Lochgelly Tae kwon do club.
We have approved the draft constitution of the club and will hold our fist AGM on the 15th September after training, where we will elect a committee to oversee the day to day running of this club, which will be a not-for-profit organisation.
Your help in attending the meeting would be greatly appreciated. Come and make sure that you have your say on how we will raise and use funds to make Tae kwon do a better experience for everyone who trains with us and make it more accessible to those who don’t train with us yet.

Family Barbeque/Come and try Event:
We have booked Lochore Country Park to hold a barbeque/come and try event on Saturday 29th August where we do some demonstrations/short classes so that visitors to the park can see what it is that we do, and have a wee shot themselves. We plan to make up some posters and flyers to advertise the event to schools in your local areas and would be grateful for the hep of any student or parent in getting these distributed in the two weeks leading up to it.
We plan to combine this with the inaugural meeting of Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do Club. We are forming a not-for-profit organisation in order to obtain and administer grant funding. This would be used to purchase for example, major items of equipment (such as holders for breaker boards, kick and punch bags, mats etc.) and possibly for the provision of sparring and other equipment and/or the provision of free or reduced cost lessons to students who would not otherwise be able to afford these. To this end we propose that any interested parents or students should meet at 10 am (for about half an hour) at the above location so we can form the club, elect officers, agree the constitution (which has been drafted) and discuss what the aims of the organisation should be. If you want to see the draft beforehand see Mr MacGregor and he will email it or give you a hard copy if you prefer.

Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do Club
We have prepared a draft constitution for a not-for-profit organisation to be called Lochgelly Tae Kwon Do Club (or similar) in order to obtain and administer grant funding. This would be used to purchase for example: major items of equipment (such as holders for breaker boards, kick and punch bags, mats etc.) and possibly for the provision of sparring and other equipment and/or the provision of free or reduced cost lessons to students who would not otherwise be able to afford these. If parents could let Mr MacGregor have their email addresses we will send this discussion draft out.
To this end we propose that any interested parents or students should meet to form the club, elect officers, set up a constitution and discuss what the aims of this organisation should be. We will organise a barbecue in the coming weeks, possibly combined with an open “come and try” event at Lochore Country Park as a family event, at which a constitution could be discussed, demonstrations/short classes given and a good time had by all.

PRESS RELEASE
Continuing professional development of Tae kwon do in Lochgelly.
The United Kingdom Tae kwon do Federation held its twice yearly seminar in Broxburn, West Lothian at the end of March. The course was led by Tae kwon do master Miss Sheena Sutherland from Bathgate and Master Michael Thomson from Inverness with able assistance from other Scottish and English international level instructors. Master Sutherland is the only woman in the world to hold her eighth dan masters degree, and pronounced herself very happy with the standard of the many black belts attending the course.
Fife based 3rd dan instructor Robert MacGregor, who runs Lochgelly Tae kwon do said he thoroughly enjoyed the demanding course and that he felt “It is absolutely essential for martial arts instructors to regularly refresh and develop their knowledge and skills, so they can effectively prepare their own students for grading exams as well as to maintain their own enthusiasm”.
Robert runs his class at the Town Hall on Bank Street in Lochgelly on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm, and has an as yet small but enthusiastic group of students, and said “I know that a lot of people are afraid to take the first step that will lead them into martial arts, but all of our training is carried out in a safe, enjoyable and controlled environment suitable for people of various ages and levels of fitness. The class is structured in such a way that the amount of fitness and skill required increases gradually, and this means that there is always something new to learn, keeping students stimulated and interested”.
He added that the first lesson is a free no obligation trial so that people will come and try it for themselves.
There are many benefits besides the obvious one of learning self-defence, Tae kwon do is a great way to improve your:
- Flexibility;
- Co-ordination;
- Self confidence;
- Energy levels;
- Posture;
- Muscle tone and body shape
Those who may be interested should ask Robert about special discounts available for those signing up at their first regular class, saving ÂŁ15 on a complete start-up package and about his excellent family discounts.
If you have any questions feel free to call or text 07838 363550 or email bobmac108@hotmail.com also check out the UKTF website www.itf-taekwondo.co.uk
